F.A.Q.s
What is the relationship between See Forever
and the Maya Angelou Public Charter School?
In support of the students at Maya Angelou
PCS, See Forever's role is to:
- Forge partnerships and build institutional
relationships in support of our students and our school.
- Develop operational and administrative
systems that let our school leaders concentrate on students
and instruction.
- Raise capital, special projects,
and general operating funding so that we can provide the
sort of programming our students need and deserve.
- Advocate locally and nationally
in support of urban education, job training, and juvenile
justice reform.
What is the relationship between the Maya
Angelou Public Charter School and Dr. Maya Angelou, the famous
poet?
In 1998, after we incorporated our academic
program as a public charter school, we wanted to name the
school portion of See Forever. We wanted our students to attend
a school with a recognizable name that they would be proud
of. So we held a student speech writing contest. Sherti Hendrix
(MAPCS Class of 1999) wrote the winning speech, arguing in
favor of naming the school after Dr. Angelou. [Click

and since then, has been a supporter of the school. She has
performed at each of our annual fundraisers, Cooking Up a
Future I through VI, including the first one in 1998 where
we formally announced the new name of the school. Read Sherti
Hendrix's winning essay.
