On May 9, 2008, the See Forever Foundation/Maya Angelou Public Charter School hosted its eleventh annual signature event featuring the school’s namesake, Dr. Maya Angelou, at the historic Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C. Patti Austin, 2008 Grammy award-winning jazz vocalist and Renee Poussaint, Emmy award-winning journalist, joined former U.S. Secretary of Labor Alexis Herman and acclaimed star of film, screen and the Broadway stage Sheryl Lee Ralph, in celebrating Dr. Maya Angelou’s 80th birthday and the 10th anniversary of the Maya Angelou Public Charter School (MAPCS) in Washington, D.C.The event was a momentous occasion honoring Dr. Angelou’s 80th birthday and featuring celebrity guests, alongside the talents of aspiring MAPCS students.

Real World Exposure @ Maya Angelou PCS
Our Real World Exposure programs permit students to have exciting opportunities that include: outdoor adventures, international study, sampling courses at universities and exploration of arts, sports and hobbies. Below are a few examples of the kinds of opportunities our students experience.

As part of this year's summer exposure, the Summer Leadership Academy of West Africa invited up to 10 MAPCS students to travel to Senegal to participate in a leadership development program. Come meet the students who participated in this wonderful opportunity.
