OUR MISSION is to create learning environments in lower income urban communities where teens, particularly those who have not succeeded in traditional schools, can reach their potential. Through Maya Angelou Public Charter School and See Forever after-school programs, students develop the academic, social, and employment skills that they need to build rewarding lives and promote positive change in their communities.

Join us by supporting numerous school-related programs that make our school—and students—better prepared for life beyond our campus
You will be supporting the programs that make the Maya Angelou School special… counseling, internships, tutoring, electives like athletics, dance, drama and photography, and summer experience programs, as well as preparation for college.

Our model works
Over the last five years, our students have:
• Improved their school attendance from 50% to 90%
• Improved their GPAs from 1.5 to 2.9!
• Improved their SAT scores by over 100 points
• Graduated high school and gone on to attend college

You can help by joining our Circle of Friends
While 67% of our funding comes from public charter school funds, the balance is raised from private sources, including corporations, foundations and people like you. For a donation of $1500 a year for 4 years, you can help us continue to provide “wrap-around” services for our students. If you want, you can team up with a set of colleagues to join the Circle of Friends. Friends support enrichment classes, tutoring, vocational training, and college preparation classes. Friends commit to providing $1,500 of support for Maya Angelou students for four years—three while at Maya Angelou and one year after graduation. Remember, you can team up to raise the $1,500 per year.

We will connect you…
Through the Circle of Friends, supporters like you will be matched up with Maya Angelou high school students on an individualized basis – so you can see firsthand where your support is going and how much it is helping in our young peoples’ lives! You will also have opportunities to meet and build relationships with your class of students through special activities, updates, cards, and participation in school events. Your name will be proudly displayed on our campus as a founding member of the Maya Angelou Public Charter School’s Circle of Friends!
