Greetings,
We are soaring in a growth mode here at the See Forever Foundation and the Maya Angelou Public Charter School. At the start of this month we added an important new member to our team – Geoff Gilpin has joined the staff as Chief Operating Officer. He will help us to build the systems and processes we need to improve our efficiency and outcomes for our students. With more than 475 students across our multi-campus learning community, the opening of our first middle school campus, and the operation of the Oak Hill School – located in the long-term secure facility for D.C. youth who have been adjudicated delinquent – this has been a banner year for us.
In addition, please update your address books with the central office’s new location. We are all very excited about our new space and hope you’ll come to visit. Our new address is:
1436 U Street, N.W.
Suite 203
Washington, D.C. 20009
The Transition Center supporting Oak Hill youth as they return to our community is in its permanent site, located at :
450 H Street N.W.
Suite 100
Washington, D.C. 20001
Both new spaces are metro accessible.
On May 9, 2008, we hope you will join us at our annual fundraiser honoring Dr. Maya Angelou’s 80th Birthday and supporting the See Forever Foundation and Maya Angelou Public Charter School. This event has also grown in scale, and will be held for the first time at the historic and newly renovated Lincoln Theatre to celebrate many milestones of the SFF/MAPCS community.
In this issue, please read ahead to learn more about:
- Our May 9th Year of the Phenomenal Woman, fundraiser will change in theme and location, but will retain the “especially-Maya” flavor and appeal of prior events. Indeed, because of all of these important milestones, we will have surprise celebrity appearances and many special treats. We look forward to seeing you there.
- Plans for our upcoming tenth year charter review with the District of Columbia Public Charter School Board.
- The prestigious Effective Practices Incentive Community (EPIC) National Charter School Consortium award, which was recently bestowed upon our Evans Campus.
We hope you will continue to support our efforts to change the “at-risk” proposition to an “at-promise” position for underserved students in Washington, D.C. There is much to share at this writing, and there is much to do in support of the years ahead!
Hope to see you on May 9th!
Cynthia
