Cooking Up A Future!

It's that time of year again! Mark your calendars for May 18, 2007 to help us celebrate our 10th year of supporting DC teens realize their potential through our annual event, Cooking Up A Future! For those of you who have attended in the past, you know that this event is magical for students, staff, and supporters alike. This year is promising to be better than ever, with new surprises from our students, exciting developments, and of course, Dr. Maya Angelou will once again inspire us through her message. Keep a look out for the Save the Date card coming soon!

Talk about starting the New Year off right! Since the start of the New Year, See Forever has received over $350,000 from supporters who believe that all DC teens deserve the chance to succeed! We received two huge grants that you’ll learn more about later. Below is just a sampling of how we were able to do this:

Holiday Mailing - Proven to be the Season of Giving
We are thrilled with the overwhelming response over the holiday season to our End of Year solicitation. So far, we have received over $36,000, and donations are still trickling in! Through the generosity of See Forever and Maya Angelou supporters, we have been able to offer our students a second chance to succeed. We are hopeful that in this New Year, we will continue to thrive, with your ongoing support.

Wine Tasting a Big Success
On November 16th, 2006 we hosted our first ever wine tasting fundraiser at the South African Embassy. The evening was a big success, with more than 120 guests in attendance. See Forever supporters, as well as new friends enjoyed a magical evening of South African wine tasting, cuisine, and music. The program included remarks by Ambassador Masekela, See Forever staff and supporters, including a student from the Shaw Campus, as well as wine critic, Ben Giliberti, from the Washington Post. The event raised over $30,000 in just six weeks!  We are grateful to everyone who showed support through this event, playing a generous role to help social justice see forever.

Recent Grants
We are pleased to announce that the Freddie Mac Foundation has once again shown its commitment to support our mission by awarding us an $80,000 grant to support our Career Prep and Alumni Support Programs. Through these programs, we are able to offer our students and graduates the supports and resources necessary to succeed beyond our school walls. We are grateful to the Freddie Mac Foundation for their continued involvement, and are confident that with the help of their support, our students will realize their potential and become successful adults.
