Notes from the Executive Director
We’re Looking For a Few Talented Folks!

Greetings, All,

It is hard to believe that the See Forever Foundation, founded by visionaries, David Domenici and James Forman, Jr., is in its tenth year. Since See Forever’s opening in 1997, and the Maya Angelou Public Charter School’s opening the following year, enrollment has grown dramatically, from 20 students in one small building to almost 300 students in Grades 9-12 on two campuses. Next September, a third campus will open as a Middle School. We plan to enroll sixth graders for fall 2007, and ultimately the school will provide holistic educational services through 8th grade.

The success of the See Forever/Maya Angelou program can also be demonstrated in many ways. We received full accreditation from Middle States last May. We target young people who may have been truant, in the juvenile delinquency system and who have repeated grades and yet, on average nearly 80% of our graduates during the past decade have gone on to college or embarked on meaningful careers. Other indicators of success include high attendance rates, improved grade point averages, and higher scores on standardized tests. We are committed to continuous improvement, and to expanding our reach to serve even more deserving students in Washington, D.C.

As our student body grows our dedicated faculty and staff must grow to serve them. Since I became executive director last July, Zakiya Sackor, Co-principal of the planned third campus, and I have been working closely, to design an enhanced campaign to attract and retain a talented and dynamic staff. We want a mix of experienced educators and recent college graduates with the skills and heart that will permit them to excel at preparing our students for success, in college and beyond. We intend for our team to become “the best” and we will offer instructional supports, opportunities for professional development, exposure to cutting-edge curricula, and incredible experiences which will permit them to achieve the best outcomes in meeting our mission. We are also working to enhance our website and share more stories which portray the unique Maya Angelou experience in both images and words.

We are actively seeking new, committed staff to join our team, including a Director of Development at the See Forever Foundation’s central office, as well as teachers, counselors and program support personnel for our school campuses. If you know of outstanding candidates who may want to join our team, please urge them to visit our employment page and to send a resume and accompanying cover letter. As always, we are very grateful for your support and encouragement.

We’re looking for the best,
Cynthia
