Transition Center
After they leave Oak Hill, students will enter a Transition Center to prepare to re-enter their lives and the real world. The Transition Center is community-based re-integration program designed to move recently incarcerated youth into productive and responsible citizenship.
While at the center, scholars will be engaged anywhere from 1 to 90 days after their release. The Transition Center Team will provide a highly structured educational component designed to facilitate a seamless transition for each scholar into the next phase of their life. During this transition period youth will be educated and trained until they are ready to re-enter a community school or employment. The Oak Hill Transition Center Team will strive to equip program youth with strategies to make prudent decisions about their future.
The Transition Center offers a comprehensive program that provides:
- Educational programs based on DCPS Standards
- Job readiness skills
- Access to jobs and job programs
- Visits to post-secondary education sites
- Visits to prospective employers
- Connections to community based agencies
- Monetary incentives
- Pro-social guidance from staff, mentors and parent figures
