MAPCS Uniform Policy

In order for students to be in school and to foster learning, students must be dressed appropriately according to the following guidelines:

Tops:  Approved red, gray, white or black MAPCS shirts.  Students can also wear a solid red, gray, white, or black polo shirt. The shirt must not be altered in any way (for example, cut off, tied above the stomach, tied behind the back, etc.) Students are allowed to wear MAPCS spirit gear.  Plain t-shirts, hoodies, jackets/coats with hoods and sweatshirts are NOT allowed. 

Bottoms:  Students must wear tan/brown khaki, gray or black pants, skirts, or dresses (must not be excessively short or tight).  The MAPCS definition of excessively short is if the bottom of the garment is shorter than the longest finger when the arm is fully extended down the leg.  Bottoms must also not have holes, rips, graffiti, inappropriate language, or images. Jeans and leggings are NOT allowed. 

Shoes:  Athletic shoes, laced shoes and/or boots, loafers, dress shoes, or other closed toes/closed-heel shoes are permitted. Mules described as closed toes and open heels are appropriate. Students shall not wear house slippers, flip-flops, crocs or any other type of footwear that could constitute safety hazards. Students are also prohibited from wearing steel-toe boots or shoes to school.  

Each student has the responsibility to dress appropriately for the school environment. Students are expected to adhere to the following dress code (on uniform days and ‘dress-down’ days: 

• Shoes must be worn. However, bedroom shoes, slippers and open-toe shoes are prohibited. 
• See-through or mesh garments, halter-tops, tank tops, crop tops, backless tops, tops with thin or no straps, or tops that show midriff or expose the body are prohibited.   
• Leggings and bodysuits must be worn with a shirt covering the buttocks (only permitted on ‘dress down’ days). 
• All shorts, skirts and dresses but be finger-tip length. 
• Properly hemmed outer garments such as shorts, divided skirts, and dresses may be worn, provided they are not distracting, as determined by the school administration. Garments including, but not limited to such items as boxer shorts, traditionally designed as undergarments may not be worn as outer garments and should not be seen under clothing.  Pajama pants are not permitted. 
• Clothing and accessories shall not be worn if they display pictures, symbols, slurs or slogans with violence, lewd, profane and obscene messages, sexually suggestive phrases, gang-related pictures, negative advertisements about race or homophobia, or messages and pictures of weapons, alcohol, tobacco, or drugs.  
• Head coverings, including but not limited to, hoodies, caps, ski masks, hats, skullies, bandanas, bonnets, and hair curlers, shall not be worn on school property, unless required by a physician or authorized by school personnel.  If head gear is required for religious reasons, please inform administration. 
• The waistband of shorts, slacks, skirts, and similar garments shall not be worn below the hips. Underwear, midriff and backs should not be exposed. Belts, suspenders, and straps should be worn in place and fastened. 
• Pants with rips on or above thighs are not permitted. 
• Any articles of clothing or jewelry that may cause injury to oneself or to others are prohibited.
