Maya Angelou Schools See Forever Foundation and will host the 2nd Annual Maya Fest: A Celebration of Community on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Maya Angelou Learning Center, located at 5600 East Capitol Street, NE.
Free and open to the public, Maya Fest, will feature live entertainment, students vs officers flag football game with Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), student enrollment, mobile health checks, moon bounce, food, and local vendors.
Maya Fest bridges Maya Angelou Schools with community residents, specifically Ward 7 & 8, and celebrate the partners, organizations, and businesses that promote a safe, healthy and civically engaging community for all.
“We strive for safe spaces for all be able to reach their limitless potential,” a quote from the Maya Angelou Schools’ touchstone, reinforces the schools’ commitment to ensuring a healthy community within and outside of school walls–where the population is still largely underserved.
With renovations on the new campus complete in 2014, Maya Fest will continue to re-instill a sense of pride and serve as homecoming for many. Special invited guests include: members from the Washington Redskins and Washington Cheerleaders, Councilmember Vincent Gray, media personalities from CBS Radio, and the Mayor’s Office for Volunteerism.
