Charter School Information and Enrollment FAQs
Charter Schools in Washington, DC:
Washington, DC charter schools are public schools that are free for all DC residents. Public charter schools are independent from the school district so that each charter school can design programs it believes best serve student needs. Any DC student can attend any DC public charter school where space is available. Families complete applications to request space at a charter school. Schools with more applicants than spaces hold a lottery to randomly select students for enrollment.
The application form is only a few basic questions to let the school know you would like to secure a space for the current or upcoming school year. The enrollment process and documents are additional information and steps that allow MAPCS to gather residency and academic information for compliance and programming needs.
All students are required to submit proof of residency. Students who cannot show that they are D.C. residents will be required to pay tuition to attend our schools.
Do you need to have passed the previous grade level or earn certain test scores to attend an MAPCS campus?
If you are offered a space at MAPCS you must accept the offer by the specified date and provide the following documentation: Proof of DC Residency, MAPCS Student Services Form, MAPCS Releases and Notices, Health Forms, Student Birth Certificate and government identification for parent/legal guardian, prior high school transcripts and/or final 8thgrade report card, home language survey, copy of most recent IEP/504 if applicable.
